Mapping Belarusian Propaganda. Online Presentation

The Center for New Ideas, with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, presents the study «Mapping Belarusian Propaganda: Key Themes, Accents, and Trends in 2024.»

Date: December 6, 2024

Time: 11:00 AM (Warsaw, CET) / 12:00 PM (Vilnius, Kyiv) / 1:00 PM (Minsk) / 2:00 PM (Tbilisi)

Belarusian propaganda on digital platforms continues to evolve: the authorities engage citizens in flash mobs to support the regime, develop a network of new influencers on TikTok and Telegram, and implement creative tools to promote the regime’s agenda.

The Mapping Online Propaganda study illustrates how pro-government sources discuss Western countries, the Belarusian opposition, the authorities’ achievements, and the war in Ukraine.

To prepare the report, the Center for New Ideas team conducted qualitative content analysis (human coding) of nearly 2,600 publications on popular platforms: Telegram, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

The study will be presented by Alesia Rudnik, Director of the Center for New Ideas, and independent researcher Aleksei Petrenko. The event will be opened by Christopher Forst, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s representative for Belarus.

Working languages: Russian/Belarusian and English (simultaneous interpretation).

This project was implemented in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, with informational support from Press Club Belarus.
